Data Insights put Beacon to work behind the scenes - monitoring and alerting the Success Network to important changes in a student's data.
Administrators can specify which types of data they want watched. When data is added or changes, and meets that certain set of conditions, the system creates a notification to share that information with the student's Success Network.
The data sources available to trigger on depend on what products and features a campus has enabled. The options include Baseline surveys, grades, absences, GPA change, major change, involvement, assessment answers, and custom question answers.
The "Recommended" data source is a curated list of questions and answers which our data science team evaluated to be unlikely, but highly telling if a student answers them in a specific way.
After selecting a data source, a set of relevant options will be presented. The administrator chooses which set of answers/options they want the system to watch for.
In this case, the user can pick between four question and answer sets that our data science team found to indicate the student may need extra attention and intervention.
After selecting a data source and a set of conditions to watch for, the administrator can tell the system what actions should be taken. They can pick the type of notification to be created, the audience, and add additional advice for the advisor or the student to be included with the notification.
When a Data Insight is triggered, it creates a notification following the parameters set in its creation. A notification (alert or data insight) is written to the student's Success Stream and audience members receive an email following their mailing preferences.
Data Insights that are created as Alerts will act as any other Alert in the system, and will require Success Network intervention to lower it's elevated status.
