The Student Report is the main source of information about a student in Beacon.
We had three main goals when designing this page:
The biggest challenge we faced while designing this page was how to handle different data sources campus to campus. By utilizing an additive tab architecture, we created an experience that can grow with the campus as they expand their product usage without changing the experience drastically for the end user.
Tabs also mirrored the physical paper file structure many campuses used before they started using Beacon. By sectioning data into familiar divisions (Academics, Involvement, etc.) we lessened the learning time and cognitive load for users new to Beacon.
Basic details about student and their preferred means of communication. The campus can upload student images in bulk or the student can upload their own image in their profile.
View of all the advisors connected to the student. Clicking on an advisor opens a modal with their contact information, office location, and office hours. If enabled, appointment scheduling is available from that modal.

A running record of notifications created about this student. Notifications can be created by advisors (updates, alerts, and encouragements) or initiated by the system (data insights, check-ins, and messages).

Beacon combines information from many different sources and displays it here.
This tab shows information about the student's academic standing, academic progress, and any special designations. If the campus is using Courses or Course Evaluation, this section will show the student's transcript filtered by semester. If the campus is using Faculty Experience to collect attendance and mid-term grade information, that information will also be available.
The student's most recent assessment results will appear in this tab. Previous assessments can be accessed from a button at the bottom page.
This tab shows any demographic information available about the student. There are ~ 80 demographic data fields built into Beacon and the campus can designate another 40 campus-specific fields.
In keeping with our efforts for fast perusal, fields are only displayed if they contain data.
If a campus is using CollegiateLink, the student's involvement record, including event attendance, organization membership, and self-reported experiences, will be shown. A quick overview of each experience as well as a link to that event or organization in CollegiateLink is displayed.
If enabled, Advisors can upload and share files here. Each uploaded file has an associated audience and advisors must agree to a privacy policy before using this feature. This tab is often used for high school transcripts or campus-specific documentation.
